offered Xiaomi has the latest in fast charging technology, thus claiming new world records for both wired and wireless charging speeds.

In the presentation, Xiaomi used a modified Mi 11 Pro phone with a 4000 mAh battery.

Xiaomi says it is able to fully charge the phone in 8 minutes via a wired 200W HyperCharge system. Or in 15 minutes with 120W wireless charging.

The company demonstrated its new technology in a video clip. The video shows that the new wired charger can fill 50 percent of the battery in just 3 minutes. And the wireless charger can achieve the same numbers in 7 minutes.

Both are currently concept stage chargers, but given how advanced charging technology is in the industry, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them in consumer products soon.

Charging speeds are a battleground among Chinese smartphone companies. These companies often launch offers for breakthroughs that may or may not appear in the final products.

Two years ago, for example, Xiaomi announced a 100-watt system that could charge a 4,000 mAh battery in 17 minutes.

Whereas last year’s Mi 10 Ultra filled up in 23 minutes with 120W charging capacity – despite it having a larger 4,500mAh battery.

Oppo is another pioneer in this field, with its VOOC technology forming the basis of OnePlus’ Dash and Warp fast charging systems.

Last year, it demonstrated a 125W system capable of charging a 4,000mAh battery in 20 minutes.

Although, that was more than a year after Xiaomi announced its supposedly fastest 100W charger, charging the current flagship Find X3 Pro at 65W.

Breakthroughs in this area are usually welcome, and the idea of being able to fully charge a phone in eight minutes is certainly appealing.

However, it should be noted that these fast charging systems almost always require proprietary chargers and cables. So they are mostly used at home rather than emergency situations where they can be very useful.

The ability of any given phone to last all day with its battery remains the most important factor for a while.
