Volvo Cars today announces a new partnership for autonomous driving, this time established with DiDi Autonomous Driving. This company belongs to one of the biggest mobility technology platforms – Didi Chuxing, and the collaboration agreement with Volvo provided for a strategic alliance, for the supply of autonomously driven cars for the DiDi test fleet.

Volvo will supply XC90 models equipped with the necessary backup systems to control steering and braking, and will collaborate with DiDi Autonomous Driving to integrate the additional software and hardware needed to make driving completely autonomous.

These will be the first cars to integrate DiDi Gemini, the new autonomous hardware platform from DiDi Autonomous Driving, which should be implemented in the company’s network in the future.

This agreement reinforces Volvo Cars’ position as one of the preferred partners in the autonomous driving fleets, further highlighting its reputation as a global leader in automotive safety.

The XC90’s built-in backup systems and security technologies, combined with DiDi Autonomous Driving’s advanced autonomous system, will eventually allow cars to be able to operate without drivers in robot taxi services.

Based on today’s agreement, Volvo Cars and DiDi Autonomous Driving will seek to build a long-term partnership as DiDi continues to expand its test fleets in China and the United States, increasing its robot robot business operations.

As a leading platform for shared mobility technology, DiDi uses its experience in network operations and its database of autonomous driving tests in a real environment to develop commercial transport services, collaborating with the world’s premium car manufacturers.

In 2020, Volvo Cars supplied DiDi with XC60 models for use in Changai’s first robot robot pilot program, where in certain areas of the city, people could book robotaxi trips on the DiDi app and be driven autonomously, while cars monitored by a security driver and an engineer.

According to Håkan Samuelsson, Volvo Cars Chief Executive, “This strategic collaboration with DiDi Autonomous Driving reinforces our ambition to want to be the partner of choice for the world’s leading companies in shared mobility. Combining DiDi’s robotic program with the safety of our cars is a great combination to build trust among consumers for autonomous driving ”-

For Bob Zhang, CEO of DiDi Autonomous Driving, “We believe that shared networks of electric and autonomous vehicles will be crucial for future urban transport systems to meet the highest standards of safety and sustainability – that’s why we are expanding our partnerships with the best companies in the automotive industry. DiDi Gemini, our new standalone hardware platform, already incorporates some hardware improvements from our pilot operations, already carried out with a passenger. With Volvo Cars’ experience in safety, we hope to overcome new barriers to achieve future fully autonomous transport services ”.

Volvo Cars has been chosen as the preferred partner for many worldwide transport companies looking to expand their fleets with autonomous cars in a safe and responsible way. Volvo Cars’ reputation as a leading car safety company is a strong attribute as it has already defined autonomous driving as one of its ambitions.
