Twitter has listed its paid service Twitter Blue in its app stores, indicating that the social media company may launch its long-rumored subscription service soon.
Mobile app stores have offered the service, although its expected features are not yet available.
A subscription plan has always been expected as Twitter is looking for more ways to make money from its large user base.
The company said in April that it has 199 million users from whom it can earn money every day, an increase of 20 percent year on year.
And thelist Twitter Blue in the Apple App Store as an in-app purchase for $2.99.
The Twitter listing in the Android Store shows in-app purchases, but does not list prices for the service.
Expected features of the paid service include an undo button to allow users to undo posting tweets a few seconds after they have been sent.
Features also include a groups feature that allows users to create separate lists of tweets, and a mode to make it easier to read long threads.
Twitter Blue’s app listings were discovered by Jane Manchun Wong, an independent researcher who works to discover the app’s features before they are released.
The researcher said that the service included new colorful themes and icons.
Charging users for additional features could significantly increase Twitter’s earning potential.
In the first three months of 2021 alone, the company generated $1 billion in revenue.
Finding other sources of revenue can also make it less vulnerable to fluctuations in global advertising demand, as well as technological changes.
Twitter bought companies in the subscription economy. These included the January purchase of Revue, which offers paid email newsletters, and Scroll, a service that removes ads from news websites.
Twitter introduced the tip feature earlier this month. This feature allows users to make small payments to others via third-party services.
This feature is currently restricted to a small number of users.
