Tesla officially cancels the Model S Plaid Plus

Tesla has canceled the most expensive version of its flagship Model S Plaid Plus sedan, according to to tweet From CEO Elon Musk.

Musk previously promised fans that the new three-engine Model S Plaid Plus version would provide drivers with 1,100 horsepower, a range of 835 km via a fully charged battery, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km per hour in less than two seconds.

“Plaid Plus has been cancelled,” Musk wrote on Twitter, which has more than 50 million followers. No need, because Plaid is enough.

In March, Tesla raised the price of the Model S Plaid Plus by $10,000 to about $150,000.

The option to order a Model S Plaid Plus copy from Tesla’s website was removed in the last week of May.

The remaining high-end version of the Model S Plaid costs about $119,900 and features a battery with a range of 630 km, with 1,020 hp and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in two seconds, among other features.

Musk had previously planned a delivery ceremony at Tesla’s factory in Fremont, California for the Model S Plaid on June 3.

As the date approached, he delayed it until June 10, saying the car still needed another week to adjust.

Like other North American automakers, Tesla has been grappling with supply chain problems, particularly the lack of computer chips.

Tesla cancels the S Plaid Plus:

The company recently removed the radar sensors and lumbar support from the front passenger seats on Model 3 and Model Y customers in North America.

The company did not produce any of the more expensive Model S or Model X cars during the first quarter of 2021, although Musk said production was in progress during the fourth quarter earnings announcement for 2020.

“The first quarter saw some of the toughest supply chain challenges we’ve faced in the life of Tesla,” Musk said on April 26. Difficulties in supply chains with parts on a full scale of parts.

He also talked about the technical challenges being developed and figuring out how to manufacture new versions of the Model S and Model X.

There were more challenges than anticipated in developing the Plaid Model S or the Paladium software, he said. It is a new version of the Model S and Model X that has a revised interior, new battery, new drive units, new interior electronics and a reconfiguration of the high-end infotainment system.

The company has raised the prices of its Model 3 and Model Y vehicles several times this year.

Musk also blamed supply chain problems for the price hikes. He wrote in a tweet on May 31: Prices are rising due to key industry-wide supply chain price pressures.
