Sony has confirmed plans to launch its PlayStation Direct online store in Europe in the coming months, an online retail platform that the Playstation maker has been available in the US since 2019, where it sells consoles, games and accessories directly to consumers. There was already information pointing to the possibility of Sony bringing its Playstation Direct online store to Europe, and it has only now been confirmed. It should be noted that

It is during Sony’s current fiscal year (FY21), ending in March 2022, that the company plans to launch PlayStation Direct in Germany, the UK, Ireland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Unfortunately, Portugal is not yet included in this initial list of countries.

In a slide included in a Sony investor event, which we’ve placed below, it can be seen that Playstation Direct has already had significant revenue in the US market in just over a year, according to SIE President and CEO Jim Ryan.

According to Ryan, “we plan for an additional 300 percent growth this fiscal year, helped by our next European launch” of the platform.

At the event, Sony indicated that PlayStation Direct generated over $5 million in fiscal year 2019, while in 2020 it generated over $200 million in FY20, counting that by the end of the current fiscal year, which ends next March as we’ve already mentioned, the value rises to 600 million dollars in revenue, and Sony believes that the business will be increasingly profitable.
