During a corporate strategy meeting, questions arose as to whether Sony would ever be as innovative as it was in the past. Without waiting, the answer came from Sony itself, and filled with ambition. The company simply stressed that “it will fill the world with emotion through the power of creativity and technology.”

These are the words of the CEO, moderator of the meeting and President Kenichiro Yoshida, when the company presented its plans to investors, explaining the movements such as the recent streaming agreements with Disney and Netflix, as well as the shortage of PS5 in the market. . The company’s goal now is to increase the breadth of the community directly connected to Sony through devices or entertainment from 160 million to 1 billion.

When it comes to the console, about your search, there is no big surprise. Sony is selling every PS5 it can produce and, despite the scarcity of semiconductor components, it expects sales this year to exceed the 14.8 million PS4 sold in the year following the console’s launch.

Sony gives PlayStation Now more power and wants to reach

One thing to keep an eye on is Sony’s cloud games, and subscription ambitions. Referring to the deal with Jades Raymond’s new development studio, Haven, the company said it seeks to increase engagement on PlayStation Network as it is its largest direct consumer platform.

Without going into details, the statement said that Sony will do this by “strengthening the PlayStation Now cloud streaming game service, and Sony intends to continue investing or partnering with external studios, in addition to investing in its internal studios to improve your software offering. ”

Executives have suggested ways to tackle the Xbox Game Pass and it looks like we’ll see more of that in the future. PS Now recently upgraded the streaming resolution from 720p to 1080p, and it wouldn’t hurt to have more updates (or perhaps some exclusive content) in store. In the announcement, Sony explained that it will spend 20 billion yen (about 184 million US dollars) to “increase development, people and other costs in our in-house studios.”

And that’s not all – as we heard, an updated PS VR system for PS5 is on its way, and Sony told investors that “Sony AI and SIE are jointly developing AI technologies that can make gaming experiences even more rich and pleasant. ”
