Sony has released an update (Version 1.04) for its Camera Remote Software Development Kit (SDK), which expands its list of supported cameras to include Alpha 1 and RX0 II. The addition of these models opens up new opportunities for companies to use industry-leading technology in Sony cameras, to develop custom camera applications and improve their own workflow.

Alpha 1 is particularly suitable for content creation and the inspection sector due to its unprecedented combination of resolution and speed with Ethernet control. The RX0 II is ideal for 3D scanning and use of Photobooth, due to its ultra-compact body and the high image quality offered by the type 1.0 image sensor.

The latest update means that up to 20 cameras can now be connected via USB, with the added benefits of Ethernet connectivity that allows users to operate the system over considerably greater distances.

The Camera Remote SDK allows users to remotely control Sony cameras from a computer, from changing camera settings to releasing the shutter remotely and monitoring in real time. With this SDK, software developers can develop customized applications according to the needs of companies, integrating Sony’s professional equipment into small drones and speed camera systems, as well as other medical, educational, governmental and of e-commerce.

Sony expands the features of the Camera Remote SDK and

“Since the launch of the SDK in February 2020, the demand has been fantastic and we have been working with new B2B partners from around the world to develop some incredibly interesting applications, which take full advantage of the advanced capabilities of cameras like the Alpha 7S III and Alpha 7R IV, ”said Yasuo Baba, Director of Digital Imaging, Sony Europe BV“ Improving connectivity options for multi-camera wired solutions is crucial for applications in areas such as e-commerce and 3D scanning and we will continue to evolve our offer, to better support the needs of our customers. ”

“The ability to connect multiple cameras in the same session per machine will greatly expand our capabilities for photogrammetry capture equipment,” said Craig Mason, Director, Stasis Media. “Support for the RX0 II gives us the ability to perform high quality full-length scans, in conjunction with face capture, all part of the same workflow. This is a great addition to Sony’s toolkit and allows us to take advantage of Sony’s high quality image sensors for fast, high quality photogrammetry scanning ”.

In addition to the existing support for Windows 8.1 / 10, ARM Linux and macOS, version 1.04 of the SDK introduces support for Linux x86, facilitating integration for industry customers who traditionally use x86 computers.

Alpha 1: Unprecedented speed and resolution

Alpha 1 captures moments that would otherwise be lost thanks to its high-speed performance, giving any photographer the speed they need to capture fast-moving objects. The high speed reading of the 50.1 megapixel full-frame image sensor (approximate number of effective pixels) and the large buffer make it possible to capture up to 155 compressed RAW full-frame images or 165 full-frame JPEG images, at up to 30 frames per second with the electronic shutter, while maintaining its maximum AF and AE tracking performance. All of these functions are possible when controlling via 10 Gbps SuperSpeed USB or 1000BASE-T Ethernet.

At an impressive calculation speed of up to 120 AF / AE calculations per second, the Alpha 1 is able to maintain focus with high precision, even in the case of fast-moving objects. You can automatically adjust the exposure, even in the event of sudden lighting changes, with an AE response latency of just 0.033 seconds.

RX0 II: High power in a compact body

The RX0 II is a truly practical camera, which can be transported to places inaccessible to other cameras, while offering fantastic image quality thanks to its type 1.0 image sensor. With dimensions of only 59 x 40.5 x 35 mm and a weight of only 132 g, the RX0 II easily fits into small spaces for truly flexible shooting.
