Qualcomm officially launched the Snapdragon processor 778G 5G, which should equip the next mid-range smartphones on the market, and they are already appointed for the Honor 50, among others. It joins the Snapdragon 780G, which Qualcomm launched in March, as one of the company’s options for high-end phones. The 778G SoC uses Kryo 670 CPU, which Qualcomm claims can improve overall CPU performance by 40 percent.

Meanwhile, its Adreno 642L GPU is designed to provide graphics rendering up to 40 percent faster compared to the previous generation. The chipset also comes with the latest (6th generation) Qualcomm AI Engine.

This particular feature enhances every video call and phone call with its noise suppression capabilities and provides AI-based camera experiences.

Speaking of cameras, the processor features a triple ISP, allowing users to capture three photos or videos using three lenses at the same time, including wide, ultra wide and zoom modes. It also supports HDR10 + video capture, which gives you the power to capture images with dramatic colors and contrasts.

As you would expect from the name, the 778G allows for 5G connectivity, while supporting Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6 speeds.

It also features selected Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, including Variable Rate Shading and Qualcomm Game Quick Touch, which allows up to 20% faster input response.

In addition to the Honor 50 series, the SoC 778G will also equip the next Motorola, Oppo, IQOO, Realme and Xiaomi phones. The devices are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2021, so we don’t have to wait that long to see the SoC in action.

Honor 50 may be the first 778G phone to be launched, although that is not yet certain. Fang Fei, president of Honor’s product line, said:

“The Snapdragon 778G 5G mobile platform brings innovations in 5G, imaging and AI. Through close collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, the new HONOR 50 series will be powered by the Snapdragon 778G mobile platform. The HONOR 50 series will set a new industry standard for product design and provide a transformative experience for our users. “
