Porsche may be designing an electric sedan cheaper than the Taycan

Autocar reports that the company can dust off the “Cajun” nameplate, initially registered a decade ago, but nothing is official at this point. As the sub-Taycan model hasn’t even been approved by Porsche executives, it seems unlikely that a production version will arrive before 2025, once it gets the seal of approval.

The model could be built at the company’s Leipzig factory and is expected to reduce the Taycan’s rear-wheel drive available in the US, and this for $80,000 (about €65,440) before any applicable incentives.

There are also rumors of an electric Cayenne, but this will likely be reserved for later in the decade. Porsche has assured sports car purists that the 911 will not lose its combustion engine this decade, although a hybrid power shaft is planned to arrive before 2030.

Originally announced over three years ago, Premium Platform Electric is a dedicated EV architecture jointly developed by Porsche and Audi, and
apparently it is twinned with a future Audi A4 E-Tron. The first production models to use the fundamentals will be the Q6 E-Tron, which will arrive in 2022 and the next generation Macan (electricity only) confirmed for 2023.

While Audi is apparently working on an A4 E-Tron without a combustion engine to fit beneath the E-Tron GT, Porsche appears to be planning its own version as a cheaper alternative to the Taycan. Autocar has authority over the people in Zuffenhausen who will be planning to go after the Tesla Model 3 and the next BMW i4, but the new electric sedan hasn’t been approved yet.

Thus, the model was previously described as being more sophisticated than MEB, offering all-wheel drive and air suspension, not to mention support for 350 kW fast loading and torque vectoring. In the case of potential Porsche electric, there will be single and twin engine versions with rear and all-wheel drive respectively.
