Nvidia will stop supporting Windows 7 drivers in October

plan NVIDIA to discontinue support for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 later this year.

NVIDIA drivers will be available exclusively for Windows 10 in October, with critical security updates only available across Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 until September 2024.

Microsoft has stopped support for Windows 7 and Windows 8, and even extended support for Windows 8.1 ends in January 2023.

“The vast majority of GeForce customers have migrated to Windows 10,” NVIDIA said. In order to ensure that GeForce owners enjoy the best possible level of security, support, and functionality, NVIDIA is now focusing on Windows 10.

There are now 1.3 billion active devices running Windows 10. But Windows 7 is still in use in many parts of the world.

Statcounter estimates that Windows 7 still accounts for 15 percent of all versions of Windows.

Steam use is dominated by Windows 10, making up roughly 93 percent. While Windows 7 makes up less than 2 percent.

Nvidia discontinues support for Windows 7 drivers:

Microsoft is also expected to release a new version of Windows in October, possibly called Windows 11.

The latest NVIDIA drivers that officially support these older versions of Windows GeForce R470 will be available on August 31, so that the October 4 release of GeForce R495 will be the first version to support Windows 10 only.

Nvidia has clarified that it is discontinuing support for Kepler-based graphics cards across older Windows operating systems using the following GeForce R470 driver.

And you won’t find Kepler in our list of best graphics cards. But a lot of players still own one.

As a result of the change, they will no longer have access to the new definitions. Kepler graphics cards debuted in 2012.

Kepler graphics card owners will continue to receive critical security updates until September 2024.

However, they lose out on Game Ready drivers upgrades, including increased performance, new features, and bug fixes.
