Nvidia uses old cards to fight shortages

Plans Nvidia to release loads of legacy Geforce GTX 1050 Ti and GeForce RTX 2060 GPUs to its partners in an effort to deal with inventory shortages and the high prices of newer GeForce RTX 30 series cards.

Currently, it is not just the new cards that people have a hard time getting, but they are also having a hard time getting any modern graphics card.

While the GPUs that Nvidia was planning to release were supposed to be affordable when they were first launched, they are not the same now.

The cost of the Geforce GTX 1050 Ti was about $ 140 when it was launched in October 2016, but when looking for it on Newegg and Amazon, outside sellers are asking for $ 250, $ 340 and even $ 798.

The modest GPU Geforce GTX 1050 Ti remains the second most popular graphics card over Steam, and its release once again brings some key strategic benefits, such as 4GB of GDDR5 memory.

The GeForce RTX 2060 cost was about $ 349 when it was launched in January 2019, but when searching for it on Newegg and Amazon, external vendors ask for $ 799, $ 899 and even $ 1644.

The GeForce RTX 2060 supports Nvidia’s ray tracing and DLSS ambitions, but is designed using the 12nm TSMC manufacturing process, to avoid the current much-needed nodes.

Rumors have said for months that there is a shortage of GDDR6 memory used with modern GPUs, which means that the introduction of the Geforce GTX 1050 Ti equipped with GDDR5 memory allows Nvidia to build affordable hardware without compromising GDDR6 reserves.

Part of the reason for the current GPU crisis is due to the Ethereum mining bubble, where the digital currency is mined via graphics cards, unlike Bitcoin, but it requires a GPU with more than 4 GB of built-in memory.

This means that the Geforce GTX 1050 Ti cannot be used to mine Ethereum, so it will not attract those buyers to it.

The Geforce GTX 1050 Ti is a 75-watt card that can be added via the PCIe slot of any computer without the need for additional power connectors.

There has been a global chip shortage, affecting everything from laptops to trucks, and some chip makers say the industry is having trouble producing even less modern chips.

And it got to the point where President Biden pledged to do something about it, but it’s hard to know how effective it will be.

And if Biden wants to help lower GPU prices, he can start by taking a look at the 25 percent tariff that former President Trump placed on graphics cards.
