New Windows 10 update causes serious problems for multiple users

Earlier this week, Microsoft published its new list of updates for April 2021, including Windows 10 KB5001330 for version 20H2 / 2004, which was a mandatory download intended to correct problems caused by the previous update, including problems long-lasting with printers.

Some Windows 10 users are experiencing serious problems after the release of the “KB5001330” update, with some reports stating that the update itself cannot be installed on some machines.

Windows Latest reports several posts on his own forum and social media sites that this is a growing problem, with many users unable to install the update. Comments on the problem are also available in the Windows Insider Feedback Hub, with a user stating:

“I am experiencing a consistent failure in the installation of KP5001330 with error code 0x800f0984. This is happening on Surface Studio 2 and Surface Pro 7. This is the second consecutive month that Microsoft is unable to do the cumulative update on my machines. The installation pauses at 20%, then again at 73% (different from 40% last month), then at 100% and fails ”.

So far, the following error messages have been reported:

  • 0x800f081f
  • 0x800f0984
  • 0x800f0922

Game performance issues and ‘Blue Screen of Death’

On a problem reported on Reddit , users are also reporting that video games are suffering from a number of problems, such as graphics flaws, significant drops in frame rates and even total crashes.

The update was found to be the cause of the problem after users discovered that the rollback of the update restored their systems to a usable state.

“This update was also giving me problems in the form of noticeable gap / lag in games where this normally never happened, with or without vsync” comments one user.

“The uninstallation also solved the problem for me and I tested it on a separate installation to confirm that the update was indeed the culprit. It looks like the same problem as yours. I hope Microsoft will look into the problem, ”commented another user.

Old bug is making new appearances

A real cause for concern is the resurgence of the temporary user bug reported in late 2020, causing the user’s saved files and settings to disappear and forcing users to log in to a guest profile.

Fortunately, this appears to be a rare problem with limited reporting, and, alongside reverting the update, you can manually move user files if necessary.

The most recent Windows reported that a user says “I am unable to enter my computer since the update. It says that “the User Profile Service service failed to sign in. The user profile cannot be loaded ”.

If you are experiencing any of the problems caused by Windows 10 KB5001330, follow the instructions below to uninstall the patch and restore your device.

  • Open the Settings application.
  • Click on ‘Update and security’.
  • Click on ‘Windows Update’
  • Click ‘View update history’.
  • Click on ‘Uninstall updates’ and select KB5001330 to uninstall it.
  • Restart

Windows 10 updates have become notoriously temperamental in recent months, with major problems being reported by users after almost every release.

Microsoft has not made an official comment about the problem, but as the errors found are easily fixed by reversing the update, we do not advise you to avoid the patch entirely.
