Qualcomm announced its Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 chip, which, as the name makes clear, is an update to the Snapdragon 7c (from last year) and aims to stimulate accessible Windows 10 ‘always connected’ on ARM laptops (and Chromebooks).

The idea, as always with these notebooks, which use Qualcomm Snapdragon chips, is to provide LTE connectivity on the go, instant functionality like a phone, and a large amount of battery. This sequel to the Snapdragon 7c takes things even further and can be a much needed boost in ARM for Windows 10 devices, with the goal of helping them follow in the footsteps of Apple’s new competition.

Of course, Apple has the very well received M1 (based on ARM) that it is now using to power some of its MacBooks. So, with the launch of the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2, what exactly is Qualcomm offering us?

An octa-core SoC with a frequency of up to 2.55 GHz that promises to provide 10% better system performance “than competing platforms”, Qualcomm is proud. And it does so at the same time that it offers a battery with more than 19 hours of continuous use, with Internet connectivity provided by a Snapdragon X15 4G LTE modem.

Several additional features are included in all of this, including an AI mechanism to speed up certain tasks, such as security functions and speech recognition. In addition, there is a Qualcomm Spectra image processor (to improve image quality) and audio enhancement technology to offer more when using your camera for video calling or simply watching videos.

Qualcomm notes: “With virtual surround sound and echo cancellation and noise suppression, the platform [Snapdragon 7c Gen 2] improves remote productivity and entertainment experiences. ”

Enterprise-grade security features are also integrated into Qualcomm’s new platform, with a secure boot process and, of course, LTE connectivity, which means better and easier management for administrators in terms of keeping devices up-to-date remotely. .

Qualcomm says the first laptop to use the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 is expected to launch sometime in the coming months. Since this is based on the entry-level Snapdragon 7c platform, this notebook – and hopefully more to come soon – should land on the accessible side of the notebook spectrum.

This more tempting price proposition, combined with the obvious battery life and the benefits of the always-on Internet, in addition to the additional performance on offer, should help Windows 10 on ARM machines take a considerable step forward.
