In a report published by The Information reports that Netflix was looking for an executive to lead its foray into video games, with the goal of offering a subscription package like the Apple Arcade or Xbox Game Pass.
Now, as first reported by Bloomberg, the streaming company has hired Mike Verdu as its vice president of game development, reporting to COO Greg Peters.
Reality is at hand, Netflix could offer games alongside its other streaming content next year. This new genre will be listed on netflix, as well as documentaries or anything else, without charging any more to its users.
Mike Verdu is a former executive who has a lot of experience in mobile gaming companies like Zynga, ran EA Mobile for a year and most recently has been in the service of Facebook.
In the last conference call of results in April, Peters said “…we are in the business of creating these amazing deep universes and engaging characters, people come to love these universes and want to dive deeper and get to know the characters and their stories better.
“Certainly, games will be a really interesting point of this… There is no doubt that games will be an important form of entertainment and an important type of modality to deepen the fan experience.
Game additions on Netflix will include interactive features such as Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Carmen Sandiego, as well as licensed games including Stranger Things for mobile devices.
This new NETFLIX modality will also bring some job openings, vacancies such as producers and leadership of interactive products, all applications will be analyzed, but it has already been announced that they will give more importance to applications with experience in the area. NETFLIX’s motto has been, let’s keep going, and let’s keep learning and discovering as we go along.
