Microsoft will uninstall the old Edge Legacy on Windows 10 (and install the new Edge)

Microsoft will remove its old Edge browser from Windows 10 PCs on April 13, an important step in its huge effort to move its customers to a more modern browser.

Two decades ago, Microsoft launched Internet Explorer and crushed competitors like Netscape Navigator and dominated the market, but then the company “fell asleep” a little and new rivals like Firefox and Chrome took the initiative, and Apple’s Safari took over. start a revolution in mobile browsers.

Microsoft was unable to keep up, even after trying to turn internet Explorer into a modernized Edge, and it was the most recent change from Edge to Google Chrome’s open source Chromium base that managed to take the right step to convince users, renaming the Previous edge for Edge Legacy.

Internet Explorer was the big favorite for several years but it was forgotten, but now Edge Legacy is also gone. Microsoft has announced that a Windows security update will install the new Edge, if it has not already been installed by users, and remove Edge Legacy. The new Edge is already the default browser in the latest version of Windows 10.

Microsoft has dramatically changed its stance on browsers over the years. Where they once saw them as a threat to Windows, a rival software base that runs on any device, they are now adopted browsers. On PCs, they are the most widely used software, and browser-based applications help Microsoft extend its services beyond Windows.

Microsoft released the first trial version of the new Edge to the public in April 2019 and released the first stable version in January 2020. The software is similar to Google’s dominant Chrome, with its core software, but includes its own customizations adopted by Microsft and that has balanced the balance, threatening Chrome’s leadership.

It also includes Edge features, such as enhanced search, designed to help the sizeable population of Microsoft business users.

If you have not yet installed the new Edge, Microsoft itself will do it for you as of April 13, together with several security updates, announced Microsoft.
