Microsoft Teams, a leader in communication platforms for workplaces, businesses and even schools, has been actively partnering with independent software vendors (ISVs) to build innovative new applications to meet countless challenges, as well as bring people together despite distance.
Microsoft Teams’ close collaboration with independent software vendors (ISVs) has witnessed the publication of more than 800 applications on this platform. It has been over a year since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is now quite evident that remote work is here to stay.
In this unprecedented environment, it was technology that emerged as a promoter
to maintain perfect communication, at work and otherwise. Today’s communication platforms are ensuring that there is no disruption to any work-related activity, where the needs go beyond the voice that extends to video, document sharing and so on. This generated innovations of its own, collaboration being the key.
Remote work software and productivity tools other than Zoom are
a critical element for any technological company to improve and expand the scope of its product, since the first brings a series of innovative new applications. “When ISVs are based on our technology, the innovation wheel starts to gain strength,” says Geeta Gurnani, country head, Modern Work, Microsoft India.
Rapid growth has now become the driving force as Microsoft Teams has witnessed its very rapid growth since the beginning of the pandemic. In the pre-pandemic era, in November 2019, microsoft Teams had about 20 million daily active users (DAUs).
This is the count of unique users taking an intentional action within 24 hours on any Teams client – desktop, mobile or web. Intentional actions include sending or replying to a conversation, joining a meeting, or opening a file in Teams. Passive actions such as automatic start-up, “screen minimization” or application termination are not counted. If we move to October 2020, this number reached 115 million DAUs, as reported by the company. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in April 2020 said: “We have seen two years of digital transformation in two months.
From remote teamwork and learning, to sales and customer service, to critical cloud infrastructure and security, we’re working alongside customers every day to help them adapt and stay open for business in a remote world. ” In the face of such explosive growth, it is not possible for a single company to deliver all innovations, which is why ISVs play a key role here. “The beauty and strength of Teams is that it is designed as a base where partners can intertwine capabilities to create innovative solutions that improve productivity,” says Geeta. It also adds that users who use third party apps in Teams, each month grew more than seven times in relation to the previous year.
The role of Indian ISVs in India in the Microsoft teams, have a diverse set of partners who are building world-class solutions at the top of the platform to offer differentiated solutions to customers worldwide. Geeta notes that ISVs come in all sizes, whether they are student startups or established IT solution providers, but they are united in a common goal of driving digital transformation through innovative technological solutions. For example, the startup Skillate has developed an AI-based AI for a recruitment platform that is integrated with Microsoft’s Teams, and that makes hiring easy, fast and transparent.
There are also other examples of ISVs, such as Empuls, which helps to improve efficiency and employee engagement, ensuring continuous feedback and performance rewards. LambdaTest, with its integration in microsoft Teams, allows developers to work as a team and solve problems faster, allowing them to start rapid tests in real time at the click of a button, within a conversation. “With the widest screen to build – from bots, messages, extensions, cards and apps through chat and meetings to name a few – at Teams they have created incredible solutions that reach people where they are, and are tailored to the needs of customers in this post-pandemic digital business environment, ”says Geeta.
Globally, more than 800 Teams apps have been published by independent software vendors (ISVs) around the world. India has seen organizations of different sizes and scales, from different industries, adopting Teams to maintain business continuity and keep their workforce engaged and productive. These included companies like Mahindra, Pidlite, as well as healthcare providers like Fortis and Healthcare, which are leveraging Microsoft’s Teams. In addition, others such as the Aakash Institute, Amity Education Group and Aga Khan Rural have put themselves on board on the teams platform.
“Microsoft Teams is not just a call or meeting platform – it’s a single stop and a secure, unified workspace for communication and collaboration,” says Geeta. It also says that organizations have seen greater efficiencies in reducing costs as well as time. ´win-win´ situations in such a dynamic environment, ISVs are also winning, since Microsoft also helps them “go to market”, and sell their solutions efficiently. They also have the opportunity to reach millions of cloud customers, with Microsoft, in a commercial market, for organizations to find, try, buy and implement the app or service. “ISVs are responsible for the vast majority of software applications built on third-party platforms, and are among the biggest catalysts for growth in cloud adoption,” says Geeta.
As part of its future roadmap, Microsoft will further integrate with ISVs, providing them with training, support and ´marketing´ services, successfully scaling their businesses. “Today, ISVs are looking for a hyperscale, are eager to acquire, and are actively engaging with more users at a faster rate. Integration with Microsoft Teams provides a platform to catapult the discovery to 115 million users who are actively using Teams on a daily basis, ”says Geeta. These measures also help ISVs in India to reach Microsoft’s global customer base, and help them differentiate themselves in the Azure market and the Teams app store. “We are proud to have such a strong and prosperous ecosystem of partners who are continually pushing the boundaries of innovation with the solutions they have built on Microsoft Teams,” says Geeta.
