Microsoft has a habit of re-igniting the conflict between Macs and PCs with Surface ads, but this time it is catching up with Apple’s Touch Bar.
And in Advertising A new 30-second TV show, which aired during the NFL Championship matches Sunday night, Microsoft placed Apple’s MacBook Pro versus the Surface Pro 7.
Microsoft mocked Apple’s Touch Bar in the advertisement, as the young man explains that the Surface Pro 7 comes with a stylus and a touch screen, while the MacBook Pro has a Touch Bar that annoys him.
In the advertisement comparing the MacBook Pro and Surface Pro 7, the young man asks: The Mac computer gave me this little bar, but why can’t they give me a full touch screen only.
Some MacBook Pro users have been calling for this for a long time, or for removing the Touch Bar altogether.
Apple is now reportedly planning to redesign the MacBook Pro later this year as the Touch Bar is rumored to be replaced by physical function keys.
Surface also has a detachable keyboard, and elsewhere Microsoft is trying to position the Surface Pro 7 as a gaming device elsewhere.
And the ad says: It’s a much better gaming machine and can run all the apps you want, which is an unusual way to frame Microsoft’s popular Surface device.
Surface Pro 7 can barely run the latest PC games at acceptable frame rates with Intel integrated graphics, so this feature isn’t the hardware’s main selling point.
MacBook Pro costs, Microsoft says, $ 1,299, while Surface Pro 7 costs $ 890.
Microsoft previously compared its Surface Pro device to the MacBook Air, and through an advertisement in 2016, it tried to lure MacBook shoppers into buying the Surface Pro 4..
This latest announcement also focuses on the older Surface Pro 7, which has now been replaced by the Surface Pro 7 Plus, at least for businesses and schools.
The new model includes a larger battery, 11th generation Intel processors, removable SSD and LTE.
