Microsoft may be on the market again to buy game maker

Since initial reports began to emerge about Microsoft’s purchase of Bethesda (which, of course, turned out to be entirely correct), there have been no rumors about additional acquisitions of video game companies. However, so far, none of these speculations has had real weight.

However, there is a new rumor on the subject and it comes from a reliable source from Bloomberg Japan. According to a recently published report, several parties are interested in hiring Japanese publisher Square Enix.

However, that report has few details – we don’t know whether that refers to Square Enix as a whole, Square Enix’s video game business or Square Enix’s broader entertainment sector.

The publisher Square Enix released a statement: “Bloomberg reported today that there are several buyers interested in acquiring Square Enix. However, this report is not based on any advertisement by SQUARE ENIX HOLDINGS CO., LTD. We do not consider selling the company or any part of its business, nor do we receive any offers from third parties to acquire the company or any part of its business. ”

But we all know that any company would make the same statement in the same situation. After all, no one wants the negotiations to be known to fans or any relevant people. However, we also cannot declare that this is not really the case. We can only wait a little while to know what is really going on.

Nothing has been confirmed

As such, we cannot jump to conclusions yet – but this warning will not stop people from sparking online speculation. After all, Microsoft’s aforementioned $ 7.4 billion acquisition of Bethesda gives the impression that anything is possible – although it is assumed that buying Square Enix would be much more expensive.

Of course, it’s hard not to think about Sony’s situation at the moment as well. The PlayStation maker clearly has a close relationship with Square Enix now, with names like Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (June), Final Fantasy XVI (TBA) and Forspoken (2022), all marked as exclusive to the PS5 console.

But then, Bethesda had made deals with Sony on Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo, hadn’t it? But, again, we wouldn’t read much in this report yet.

Large corporations are always weighing their options, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that something is really going to happen. If more information starts to emerge in the near future, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
