Microsoft is trying to make Windows 10 more convenient for users who need to know about new features in major updates.
The software giant admits that it has had a poor job of explaining new features to users in the bi-annual Windows 10 feature updates.
The company launched a new advice app similar to iOS to make it easier for users to learn more about the new features in the update.
The new Tips app is supposed to help one billion people who use Windows 10, as many of them do not keep up with the latest features being tested in the Windows Insider program, or are highlighted by Microsoft’s blogs.
AndHe said Brandon LeBlanc (Brandon LeBlanc), Senior Program Manager, (Windows Insider): We know that the change with a major update doesn’t always seem obvious, and you can’t learn and try new features and improvements.
“This means that the updates may take a long time without giving you a real benefit, and we want to change that and make Windows 10 more convenient.”
The new “post-update experience” is currently being offered to (Windows Insiders) users in the (Dev) channel via Windows 10 preview version number 20190.
It comes after the release of the May Update (Windows 10 May 2020), also known as version 2004, which contains relatively few changes in features, as Microsoft tries to install feature updates for its own to meet the needs of enterprise customers and consumers.
Applying tips highlights all major changes in the next update after installing it.
People who have this preview version see a new Tips app that shows some of the latest new features from the latest preview releases for Windows Insider Dev channel users.
Windows Insider users need to check the “Show Windows Welcome Experience” checkbox in Settings, and this application is currently available to users in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, India and Canada.
The latest preview of Windows 10 modifies the Graphics Settings page to allow users to choose the default high-performance GPU.
And on systems with multiple GPUs, users can choose a specific GPU based on the application.
Separately, Microsoft is working to improve the information available about the optional updates, as the company recently made changes to its optional updates, which are released in the third and fourth weeks of every month.
Besides the new security update, Microsoft has updated its settings page to show more information about these optional updates, which often fix bugs but are not imposed on users until the security update is released.
