One of the main football simulators, Pro Evolution Soccer, has just received a big surprise from Konami: a test demo version for consoles.
The next game in the PES franchise is still a big secret, but fans of the series were surprised when they noticed that a demo of the game was available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Or rather, “New Football Game”, as the title is referred to.
The test is available now and is playable until July 8th, so you still have time to try out the new game. Currently, the game only allows you to play with other players in 1 on 1, which supports cross-play between consoles, which is really nice.
No official announcement of the demo has been made, but Konami makes it very clear that this demo is not really a real demo, but almost purely used as a performance test. They say: “This is only a limited trial version and our only goal is to check the quality of the mix of online games and connection to servers.”
They even point out that “all aspects of the game, including game mechanics, balancing, animations, graphics, etc., are all under development, have already been improved and will continue to be improved before the official release.”
This will be the first PES game on the Unreal platform, as the franchise is leaving Fox Engine behind. This test demo is the first sample players can get from the series using the new engine. However, again, Konami is careful to say that this will not be representative of the appearance or performance of the final game.
So, you can go out and play some of the next PES (or New Football Game), but keep in mind that it’s still an early version and it’s not a good representation of what the game will be like. Still, it will help programmers test the infrastructure online.
