The new Kia Ceed underwent a facelift for the year 2022 and its main changes are noticeable right at the level of the front grille, as well as in the luminous signature. This C-segment model throws itself into the middle of the beasts — being the European market — with the usual South Korean signature. Several European and non-European brands dispute this segment as one of the best sellers on a continental level, however, will this new model be able to deal with the competitiveness of the old continent?
Asian manufacturers have always excelled for bold looks or a little out of the box, however, the Ceed presented for 2022 has become a vehicle with a much more aggressive look on the outside, especially if combined with the GT and GT-line versions that they put on A whole range of elements are available to enjoy the feeling of a more dynamic car.
The Koreans opted for a front grille with more creased lines, which also highlights the metallic rim — a little different in the plug-in hybrid model —, the headlights, as far as they are concerned, adopt a more pointed configuration (arrow style) that favors the sporty vehicle feel, furthermore, the futuristic rear lights in smoked glass (dynamic lights) in which the gearshift indicators have a sequential animation as we’ve seen in other manufacturers.
This model has two screens — consisting of a 12.3″ digital instrument panel combined with a 10.25″ touchscreen — and also five upholstery options depending on the model. The infotainment system now gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility with wireless connectivity and a USB port in the center console facing the rear passengers, featuring JBL sound. The climate is now dual zone with automatic temperature control and heated front and rear seats.
Moving on to the engine, Kia equips the model with the traditional three-cylinder 1.0l petrol turbo capable of delivering 120 hp of power with an available torque of 172 Nm from 1,500 rpm. This engine is accompanied by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox together with a mild-hybrid setting of 48V in order to lower fuel consumption and emissions. Two other engines are available, one that runs on 100 hp bi-fuel (LPG) and the other on a 136 hp diesel hybrid with 320 Nm of torque from 2,000 rpm.
The plug-in hybrid model combines a 1.6l gasoline direct injection engine aided by an electric motor offering a combined power of 141 hp available at 5,700 rpm, with 147 Nm of torque (at 4,000 rpm). The electric power of 44.5 kilowatts is available thanks to an 8.9 kWh lithium battery with 44 hp (and 170 Nm torque), which allows to travel 58 km in 100% electric mode. It is also accompanied by a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
There are also two sportier power units, a 160hp 1.5l gasoline or a 204hp 1.6l (exclusive to GT models) accompanied by a seven-speed transmission.
This facelift of the Kia Ceed (2022) starts mass production as early as August in Slovakia, so customers will start receiving models as early as October — for both wagon, hatchback and proceed models — so it should already be be able to start ordering these models from the brand.
