Instagram photo and video sharing service launched today, Wednesday, a new feature that offers users (suggested posts), in order to keep them as long as possible browsing the app.
The Suggested Posts feature displays posts from accounts that the user does not follow, and it appears at the end of the user’s feed, when they finish seeing all of your followers’ posts.
And over the past two years, Instagram has shown users a message when they reach the end of their feeds, which means they’ve seen every post over the past two days from the people who follow them. And with the suggested posts, they’ll have the option to keep scrolling next for more content.
The suggested posts will not be the same as appearing in the (Explore) section. It will be related to content that people are already following, while the (Explore) section aims to direct people towards slightly different content. If the user is interested in a category of photos, the suggested posts that will appear will be from the same category but from people who do not follow them.
Instagram did not mention how many times people actually reach the end of their feeds on a daily basis. But she said: There will be ads in the suggested posts, and only photos and videos posted on the network will appear at the moment.
The move is believed to contradict Instagram’s stance two years ago on limiting screen time. This is when the company released the notice regarding the end of the feed, in order to take into account the mental health of users. However, a company official said: The (Suggested Posts) feature was not designed to keep users glued to their screens.
It is also believed that the (Suggested Posts) feature simulates the experience of the popular TikTok application, which offers users endless posts, which is one of the reasons for the app’s success. Instagram may take advantage of the feature to display more ads in order to achieve additional profits for them.
