The question now with HDMI 2.1 is what does the new cable standard mean for your TV, where the main feature here is support for 8K content at 60fps, but there are also a number of smaller features that add up to a much more capable standard , such as support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Dynamic HDR, and Fast Media Switching, which should make it faster than ever to switch between devices connected to our television.

What is HDMI 2.1? The new standard for HDMI connectors has arrived in force, with 2021 TV ranges offering broad support for HDMI 2.1, based on the foundation of last year’s high-end equipment.

HDMI 2.1 is a game changer, literally. It allows you to pass more information from game consoles, AV receivers and the like – increasing the potential resolution and refresh rate for more detailed images and more beautiful games.

In a world of PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles, this is a great evolution and option, and it is clear that TV makers are trying not to miss the demand for next generation gaming machines. It is easy to forget, however, that when the High Definition Multimedia Interface (or HDMI) first arrived on the market and on the scene, it also shook the AV industry.

Everyone was delighted that they didn’t have to use the Bulky SCART and its connectors, or those messy component video cables, and never again. Instead, HDMI offered high-definition video with a connector that was only slightly larger than a standard USB plug.

Over the years, the HDMI standard has seen continuous improvement, with extra features being added to the needs of televisions and their changes and developments. HDMI 2.1 is just the next step in this process.
