Google phones shoot Night Sight videos

Google shared a slew of announcements at the Google IO 2021 Developer Conference last month. Some new features are being introduced.

And the company brings things like Locked Folder and Night Sight to Pixel phones, along with a host of other updates.

In addition to being passcode-protected, Locked Folder acts as a local space across your device for photos you don’t want to be automatically uploaded to your Google Photos account where they can be viewed, for example, by a partner with your login information.

You can choose to save photos you take with the camera directly to the locked folder, or move your shots there.

You can find the Locked Folder under the Utilities section of the app. Your videos and photos will not appear across shared devices, Memories, or other apps on your device. It requires your phone passcode or your fingerprint to access it.

Google has also updated its Night Sight camera mode that uses long exposure to capture detailed shots in low light, and now supports videos.

An updated Night Sight mode now takes a photo and video when you tap the shutter button. The system groups the multiple frames you record together no matter how long you leave the camera on to create an animation.

Google said the feature is now available across Pixels 4 and later so you can try it out.

Google brings updates to its phones:

Some of the other tools that have been rolled out include the Heads Up feature in Digital Wellbeing which reminds you to look ahead and take your eyes off your screen when your phone detects that you’re walking.

You can also answer or reject calls on your phone by saying “Hey Google, answer the call” or “Hey Google, reject the call.”

The clipboard in GBoard has also become more context-aware. So when you copy a piece of text that contains phone numbers, email addresses, or URLs, it offers them as suggestions for pasting.

And when you send it, clicking on it quickly launches the relevant app, like Maps to go to the address or Gmail for email.

Google is expanding some of the existing features to more parts of the world. Car accidents are detected in Spain, Ireland and Singapore as well as the US, UK and Australia where they are available.

Call Screen is now supported in Japan. While the transcription app Recorder now recognizes more of what Google calls English dialects. Including Singaporean, Australian, Irish and British English.

All of the mentioned features should be available now or very soon, and if you don’t see them, you might want to try updating your apps.
