Google is testing a new system for public profiles that users create called People Cards, which will allow users to create their own profile, such as: their job, links to social media platforms, a short CV, and more.
What distinguishes (people cards) that contain information about users is that they will appear directly in search results via Google. It’s similar to how celebrities and companies appear in search results. Google has started testing the new cards only in India, in English.
To set up a new card, the user only has to search for the phrase (add me to search) while logged into his Google account. From there, Google will move it to a new page that allows it to create the card.
There are mandatory fields, such as: name, job, location, and CV, however the user can also add information about his education, birthplace, links to his website, other social media, and even his email and phone number.
However, it is believed that having a system like this would allow anyone to create a result that would appear in a Google search for hundreds of millions of customers who rely on the service daily, as there is a high potential for abuse, as it is easy for trolls or harassers to create fake cards that appear every time they search. It contains a person on the username or uses his people card to give sensitive information, such as: his address, his e-mail, or his phone number.
To this end, Says The Company: It has “a number of mechanisms” in place to prevent the harassment and abuse of the people card system. Each Google account is only allowed to create one person card, and their account must be authenticated with a phone number before they are allowed to create the card. Google will allow the user to report cards that contain bad information or that are believed to be created by a fraudster, and users will be able to delete or modify their cards whenever they want to.
