Huawei launched a new white paper on innovation and intellectual property, a document that highlights Huawei’s path in these areas until 2010, and includes data and milestones that mark its investments in Research & Development since the 1990s.

Song Liuping, Huawei’s Chief Legal Officer, points out that Huawei has thus wanted not only to “make known the history of innovation undertaken by the company in the last 30 years”, as well as its “long-term commitment to industrial property, essentially the result of respect, protection and continued contributions in this field that we have always been concerned with maintaining and strengthening ”.

Establishing an indicative chronology of Huawei’s role in this area, it should be noted that the multinational submitted its first patent application in 1995 in China (where it is currently the largest patent holder) and in the United States of America in 1999.

Less than a decade later, in 2008 the World Intellectual Property Organization first listed Huawei as the absolute leader in terms of the number of patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). In 2019, Huawei won second place in Europe and tenth position in the United States in terms of the number of patents granted.

Huawei, which will regularly announce more innovations and activities in the field of intellectual property so that the public can follow and better perceive the company’s innovation practices, has also launched a new patent micro-site inserted in its web page. With patents organized by different portfolios, the micro-site will have a constant update, in order to keep the industry informed about the latest innovations underway carried out by the multinational.
