Creator CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077 game topped PS4 PlayStation downloads from Sony’s Store last month, just ten days after its return to the platform.
As has been the custom for PlayStation revealed the most downloaded games in June, and it’s no surprise Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was the most popular PS5 title. Most surprising is the Cyberpunk 2077 game, which even after its chaotic start and PSN Store Removal, was the most downloaded PS4 game last month.
The game, featuring Hollywood star Keanu Reeves, was pulled from PlayStation Store in December, shortly after its debut, due to gamers complaining of numerous flaws in the game.
Cyberpunk sold nearly 14 million copies last year, but the company did not provide updated numbers. The company’s chief financial officer, Piotr Nielubowicz, said last month that upcoming sales at the PS store are likely to be higher.
“This is the first indication of the game’s sales potential,” wrote VTB Capital analyst Vladimir Bespalov in an official publication.
In addition to the increase in the number of sales, shares in CD Projekt rose 3 percent at the start of the launch.
Grand Theft Auto V (second place in North America and third place in Europe) and two sports simulators – FIFA 21 in Europe (second place) and NBA 2K21 in North America (third place) rose to the virtual podium along with Cyberpunk 2077.
Recall that a month earlier, PlayStation Store was dominated by Resident Evil Village (PS5 and the European segment for PS4), the console version of Rust (PS4 in North America), Beat Saber (PS VR) and Call of Duty: Warzone (shareware segment).
Separately, the company announced that it will release free downloadable content this year for its medieval fantasy game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt inspired by the worldwide hit Netflix series.
