The Government intends to attract foreign investment, namely in the fifth generation mobile networks (5G) or autonomous driving, through tax benefits or land facilitation.

According to TechWire, the Ministry of Commerce of China, will create incentives on January 27 to cover a total of 480 sectors at national level and another 755 in the central and western regions of the country, whose development Beijing wants to promote, aiming to balance the economic growth of the provinces of the interior with that of the most prosperous coastal areas.

New sectors added to the list of strong bets also include online education and cross-border e-commerce, as well as improved efficiency and industrial technologies. There are also areas related to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the production of ventilators or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machines, used in the vital support of patients with severely damaged lungs.

Foreign investors who contribute capital in these sectors will be able to take advantage of “preferential policies” in terms of taxation or land use.

The publication anticipates that many reports are likely to exaggerate the extent of the Chinese 5G deployment for several reasons. One of the reasons for this is related to the intentional inflation of statistics reported by operators under pressure from Chinese authorities. This is an old practice in China so as not to displease the country’s leaders.

In the face of a prolonged trade war with the United States, Beijing is promoting the signing of agreements such as the Comprehensive Regional Economic Partnership (RCEP), the largest free trade agreement in the world, which includes 15 countries in the Asia region. -Pacific, or the Comprehensive Investment Agreement, which is due to be signed soon with the European Union (EU). With the latter agreement, the EU aims to achieve reciprocity in access to the Chinese market by European companies and to increase transparency in subsidies granted by the Chinese government to state-owned companies.
