Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is even more distinguished than the Super Sport 300+

Much like the Super Sport 300+, the latest Chiron is electronically limited to 273 mph (440 km/h), that’s when Bugatti claims the hypercar is still “effortless and safe in control”, and is now revealed as the ´Grand Tourer 273 MPH´. It is considered to be the ultimate grand tourer, offering comfort and luxury even at record speeds. Production is planned to start soon and deliveries to the customer will begin in early 2022.

304,773 mph (490.484 km/h) is the impressive speed achieved by Bugatti test driver Andy Wallace in 2019 at the wheel of a Chiron Super Sport 300+. A production version limited to 30 examples followed shortly to mark the occasion, and now the Molsheim folks are introducing a new flavor of their long-tailed W16 hypercar. We can then, and now know the Super Sport, which will be even more rare as the production will be limited to just nine copies.

The performance numbers are impressive. The new Chiron Super Sport reaches 124 mph (200 km/h) in 5.8 seconds and 186 mph (300 km/h) in 12.1 seconds. And from 0 to 249 mph (400 km/h), it’s seven percent faster than a standard Chiron. The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission has been modified and now has a seventh gear, 3.6 percent longer. Fun fact – the SS changes from sixth to seventh at 250 mph (403 km/h).

While the Super Sport 300+ was molded after the record car driven at the Volkswagen Group’s German test track Ehra-Lessien, the new Super Sport has a different finish. It retains the reworked body, and stretches by 25 centimeters (9.8 inches) compared to the standard Chiron for optimal airflow at high speeds.

Dual tips provide deeper and richer sound effects, courtesy of the 8.0-liter quad-turbo engine, producing a whopping 1,577 horsepower and 1,600 Newton-meters (1,180 pound-feet) of torque. Compared to the Super Sport 300+, Chiron’s new special edition has redesigned aluminum wheels with a five-spoke Y design and an optional diamond-cut finish.

Alternatively, customers can order magnesium wheels originally seen on the Pur Sport to further reduce weight beyond the 23 kg (51 lb) diet on a regular Chiron.

The new ‘shoes’ are packaged in the only tires available on the market that can consistently withstand speeds of up to 311 mph (500 km/h). It’s a custom-made Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tire that’s x-rayed to make sure it doesn’t even have the slightest irregularities.

The tires have reinforced straps to handle the enormous forces and were checked on the same test bench initially designed for a Spaceship. Price? €3.2 million, a “bargain” considering that the unique La Voiture Noire is about three and a half times more expensive although less powerful.
