Boston Dynamics’ adorable ‘Spot’ robot has been around for a long time and is in fact an agile mobile robot that navigates terrain with unprecedented mobility, allowing you to automate routine inspection tasks and data capture with safety, accuracy and frequency.” according to official information. But, the truth is that much of this company’s fame is demonstrated in the dance exhibits its robots do (which are impressive).
Recently, Boston Dynamics was purchased by Hyundai Motors and to celebrate this, the robot Spot visited BTS on the set of the commercial “Hyundai: Ioniq” and the result is very interesting.
Dancing to ‘Ioniq: I’m On It’, BTS and Spot collaborated so well; his smooth movements and Spot’s dancing almost seem like a prediction of the future! The robot’s canine responses make it more accessible than expected and with the BTS following Spot’s gestures. Undoubtedly a video worth watching, and below we have a complete video of a choreography also published now for the same festivities.
But programming the robot for these short videos was also a feat. Eric Whitman, a project leader said, “There were a lot of challenges in putting the vision of our choreographer, who is used to dealing with human dancers, into our software. Everything had to be planned in advance and accurately.”
“Robots have the advantage over humans because they are very repeatable: once you get it right, it’s still right. But they have the disadvantage that you have to specify them every little detail,” so that in the end everything is fine and we can enjoy this great video (and be impressed).
Haven’t seen the videos yet? Look that is worth seeing. The first is higher up in the article, and the second video is already below.
