THE Binance Charity, the first blockchain-powered transparent donation platform ever, leads the most ambitious NFT tree planting project to date, with the goal of planting ten million trees worldwide.
THE Tree Millions Alliance will be released next Tuesday, September 28th. The initiative already has 17 confirmed crypto industry participants to support reforestation efforts and plans to have 100 members by March 21, 2022, the date of the UN Forest Day celebration.
The fundraising campaign is open to both companies and individuals. For each donation made, an NFT certificate encrypted with the data of the planted trees will be issued. The project uses NFTs as a tool to monitor how donor money is spent and records data such as tree species, when and where they are planted. As with all Binance Charity projects, 100% of donations will be delivered directly to the project’s execution partners.
“The crypto industry is new and constantly evolving, so we recognize the role it needs to play in protecting the planet. Tree Millions is just a step forward in mitigating our impact on the natural world; we will continue to innovate and collaborate to reduce it even further. Blockchain technology is a powerful tool to build a fairer, more transparent and more equitable future. We are determined to continue to unlock this potential.” commented CZ, founder and CEO of Binance.
Binance Charity is collaborating with the Binance NFT, a world-leading NFT marketplace, to allow Tree Millions to plant NFTs in a metaverse in order to create the largest virtual tree plantation forest in the world. In addition, Binance NFT will recruit creators to participate in NFT for Good, helping with Tree Millions’ fundraising efforts.
NFT for Good was first released in June 2021 by Binance Charity and Binance NFT, with the goal of capturing creativity to achieve significant change. NFT certificates produced for Tree Millions by Binance Charity will use Binance SmartChain, which consumes less than 1% of the energy consumed by Bitcoin.
“The natural world is in crisis and we are calling on the digital world to help. It becomes increasingly clear that we are all inextricably linked so that if nature fails, so do we. We know that trees are an important resource in the battle against climate change and are an essential part of maintaining balance in the fragile ecosystems that help create life on Earth; that’s why we’re launching Tree Millions. We believe that crypto is the future and we want to be part of a green future.” commented Helen Hai, head Binance Charity and NFT.
Binance Charity is working with environmental NGOs around the world to help carry out tree planting; One Tree Planted and the Koala Clancy Foundation have already been confirmed and more will be announced shortly. The first phase of the project is already underway, with a $2 million donation by Binance.
Tree planting efforts have already begun in Australia, Canada, Germany, Ukraine, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Ghana, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand.
The Tree Millions Alliance represents a step towards the shared vision of Binance Charity and Binance for a greener crypto industry. Last year, Binance launched the Binance Smart Chain (BSC), one of the leading green blockchains. If the Bitcoin network consumes around 113.89 terawatts per hour per year (TWh/year) and traditional banking systems consume 263.72 TWh/year; Binance Smart Chain consumes less than 1% of these amounts. BSC is extremely green and efficient as a blockchain and NFT issuance platform.
