At CES2021 Asus announced a new mechanical keyboard called ROG Claymore II with a useful detachable number pad, and there will also be the presentation of a new wireless ROG Gladius III gaming mouse.

The keyboard is designed for gamers, with customizable macro keys and rGB key illumination. It is also the first device to feature the Asus RoG RX Blue or Red itself, with a life expectancy of 100 million ‘keyboards’.

The ROG Claymore II connects via a USB-C cable or wirelessly via 2.4GHz. If you use it wirelessly, its 4,000mAh battery should last up to 40 hours. Asus says the USB-C port supports fast charging and USB passthrough for other devices. This model will be launched in the 2nd quarter of 2021; Asus has not yet shared a price.

Asus has also announced its new ROG Gladius III Wireless gaming mouse. The mouse does not have a final price or specific release date (beyond the target for the second quarter of 2021), but the design and specifications are worth knowing. The Gladius III Wireless looks like the Razer DeathAdder V2, which TheVerge cited as the best wired gaming mouse to buy. The new device’s sensor supports up to 19,000 DPI, and can be wired or wirelessly using 2.4GHz or Bluetooth. Asus says that a purely linked version of this mouse will be released at some point.

Notably, the ROG Gladius III allows user-replaceable switches so you can find the right feeling for your needs – even allowing you to switch between Omron three-pin and five-pin mechanical optical switches. Most people will probably never put the rats under such stress, and should reach the end of the life of their switches, but having the option to change them is certainly a good feature.

Also in relation to Asus’ ROG Claymore II mechanical keyboard, mention that it has a useful detachable number pad. This model gives a nod to people who just can’t get out of the numpad entirely: you can take it apart to make the Claymore II an 80% keyboard if you need to save space or attach it magnetically when you need to calculate some numbers. The numpad also offers more intuitive media controls, such as a volume display.
