Apple thought about launching an excellent feature on Android in 2013

The lawsuit between Apple and the Epic Store is already underway and promises to make a lot of ink run (or keys) as it has revealed some interesting information that, until now, was unknown to the general public.

One of the “novelties” that was discovered is that Apple even thought about launching iMessage, one of the great features of the iPhone and exclusive for Apple products, in the Android operating system, in 2013, and this application was launched in 2011 with iOS 5. However, although it is possible, Apple decided not to do so, as it believes that this feature is one of the pillars of why users remain in their ecosystem, despite the existence of more or less complex solutions for to do.

According to the information obtained by the website 9to5Mac when having access to documents of the lawsuit between Epic Games and Apple, they found emails where there is this reference among several Apple employees, namely senior executives of the company. Eddy Cue, VP of Apple services indicated in the email that it would be easy to create compatibility so that users on both platforms could exchange messages using iMessage, but the denial came from another VP.

Craig Federighi, VP of iOS, said that “iMessage on Android would simply serve to remove the obstacle for families with iPhone from giving their children Android smartphones”, confirming that Apple could lose more than winning with this decision.

This is yet another argument to give Epic Games the strength that Apple intends to restrict its users to the options provided by the company itself, as well as demonstrating that the company itself knows this and has built a strategy in this regard.

Google recently launched RCS, which offers features in messaging services similar to what we found in iMessage and which is already available on virtually all Android smartphones.
