Apple: The latest iOS 14.5 update is now available

The latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 14.5, has finally arrived. Apple said after its launch event last Tuesday, where it introduced the new iMacs, AppleTV 4K and AirTags, that this update would reach consumers this week, along with Apple’s new AirTag trackers.

IOS 14 was released in September, before the release of the iPhone 12. Although new versions of Apple’s mobile operating system typically arrive once a month with new features and bug fixes, the latest version – iOS 14.4 – was released in January 26. However, iOS 14.5 is a bigger update and with more news than “normal”.

The latest version of the operating system includes new features that make it easier to unlock your phone while wearing a mask (as long as you also have an Apple Watch) and that require applications to request user permission before tracking data and activities. You will also find new voice options for Siri, which will no longer be standardized for a female voice.

Here’s everything you need to know about iOS 14.5 so far, including how to download it and what new features you’ll find. Also, here are the rumors we heard about iOS 15.

Apple The latest iOS 145 update is now available

How do I download iOS 14.5?

Normally, you should receive a notification that iOS 14.5 is now available for download, or you can do it manually like this:

  1. Open the Settings application.
  2. Select General.
  3. Touch Software update.

Your device connects to Apple’s servers and will ask you to download and install the update. Follow the instructions to complete the installation. When the device is restarted, it will be running iOS 14.5.

Which devices are compatible with iOS 14.5?

IOS 14.5 will be compatible with the same devices as iOS 14. So this includes from iPhone 6S to iPhone 12, along with iPhone SE and iPod Touch (seventh generation).

What new features does iOS 14.5 include?

Use Face ID on your Apple Watch to unlock your iPhone – even when you’re wearing a mask

Apple Watch owners can opt for a feature that allows you to use Face ID to unlock your iPhone when the watch is turned on and unlocked, even if your face is “blocked” by a mask. The watch will provide tactile feedback that your iPhone has been unlocked.

If you have an Apple Watch, iOS 14.5 will allow you to use it to unlock your iPhone more easily while wearing a mask.

You can choose a standard music player

Apple Music no longer has to be your default music player. Instead, the first time you ask Siri to play something, it will list all of the music streaming services that you have installed on your device.

Just choose which one you want to set as your default player, like Spotify.

More than 200 new emoji

IOS 14.5 includes 217 new emojis, including new skin tone variations for popular emojis, like kissing couples. You will also find new emoji like heart on fire, faces exhaling, faces in clouds and faces with spiral eyes.

Changes were also made to the syringe’s emoji, removing blood to make it more appropriate to represent vaccines.

Choose a new voice for Siri

In the beta version for developer on iOS 14.5, Siri does not have the female voice by default. Instead, you will be asked to choose your preferred voice for the digital assistant.

The operating system has already included two new voice options for English.

More updates from Siri

Soon, Siri will be able to call the emergency number for you (112), with a prompt like “Hey, Siri, call emergency.” You will see a three-second countdown, giving you the option to cancel the request.

Stream Fitness Plus workouts with AirPlay

IOS 14.5 and WatchOS 7.4 will allow Apple Fitness Plus users to stream exercises directly to TVs and AirPlay 2 compatible devices.

Transparency in application data tracking

IOS 14.5 includes privacy changes that will require applications to request user permission before tracking data and activities.

This is based on a change released in iOS 14.3, which allows you to see what data applications capture before downloading and has generated a big discussion between Facebook and Apple.

Global Dual-SIM 5G support

IPhone 12 users will have dual SIM support globally, which means they can take advantage of the phone’s physical SIM slot and digital eSIM to have two service lines on the same phone.

Previously, this possibility was only available in China and it is, without a doubt, a great novelty in iPhones.

Console command support

With the update, Apple added support for iOS and iPadOS for PS5 and Xbox Series X controllers, so you can play on your phone or tablet.

You’ll also find some design changes in the Podcasts, News and Reminders apps.
