Apple: New iPad Pro features M1, 5G processor and mini LED

We knew that the new iPad Pros would have a processor that could be similar to Apple’s own new processor, but it is even better. It is the M1 itself that comes to equip the new iPad Pros, placing them at a higher level and, increasingly, professional and competing with computers.

Compared to the A12Z, the CPU performance is up to 50%, the GPU is 40% faster. Apple allows you to customize your new iPad pro up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 2 TB of storage (storage is also twice as fast as the previous generation).

And to make these tablets even more like those on a computer, join the Thunderbolt port. It has a transfer speed of 40 Gbps and allows you to connect external monitors with resolution up to 6K, as well as super fast external storage. And if it somehow has 10 gigabit Ethernet, the new iPad Pro can handle it, too.

Although talbet allows you to add external monitors, you may have trouble taking your eyes off the screen of the iPad itself – the rumors were right, Apple equipped the iPad Pro 12.9 with a mini-LED panel (the 11 ”model still uses a normal LCD ”) Apple calls the Liquid Retina XDR display, similar to the Pro Display XDR desktop monitor. It is super bright, with a peak of 1,600 nits and achieves a brightness of 1,000 nits. And it supports all high quality image formats (HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG).

The heart of the mini-LED is the new backlight, which consists of 10,000 tiny LEDs grouped in 2,500 local dim zones (for comparison, the previous iPad Pro 12.9 had only 72 LEDs).

Both the 11 ”and 12.9” models have ProMotion, also known as the 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The screen of the 11 ”model is the well-known Retina which has 600 nits of maximum brightness. It even supports True Tone and uses the DCI-P3 color gamut.

Although they may rival some desktops in terms of performance, iPad Pros are still mobile products and now have 5G connectivity, the first on tablets.

The new iPad Pros have an updated TrueDepth camera with a 12 MP sensor and an ultra-wide angle lens. The 122º field of view allows a feature called Center Stage – when in a video call, the tablet can zoom in and out to keep it in the center of the frame. And if another person sits next to you, he will zoom out so that both are in the frame.

The dual camera at the rear has some improvements. It even has a 12 MP main module and a 10 MP ultra-wide module, in addition to a LiDAR scanner. Most of the improvements come from a faster ISP and NPU than the M1 chipset. They enable Smart HDR 3 and, in low light conditions, LiDAR helps with auto focus. The tablet can also insert digital images and keep them as a background to create impressive virtual environments, in the style of what we already find in other videoconferencing services.
