Android users are being urged to delete a chat app that might spy on you and steal your data. Android users and device owners across the country have been instructed to ensure that the chat app is not on their phones.

The concern is that the application can infiltrate your personal information, pinch your details and put you at risk for security breaches. ESET researchers have warned of a malicious application that can spy on you and even steal your personal data.

The app is called Welcome Chat and has been downloaded in a worrying manner by many device owners Lukas Stefanko, a researcher at ESET, said: “Regarding the ‘safe’ claim, nothing is further from the truth.

“Welcome Chat is not just a spy tool; in addition, its operators made the data collected from their victims freely available on the internet. And the app was never available on the official Android app store. “

Stefanko explained: “Such an extensive list of intrusive permissions can usually suspect victims – but with a messaging app, it is natural that they are necessary for the app to deliver the promised functionality”.

If they have full permissions, the app will be able to access your private text messages, contact lists and view your photos. Stefanko added: “We strongly recommend that users do not install applications from outside the official Google Play store – unless it is a trusted source, such as the website of an established security provider or some reputable financial institution.

“In addition, users must pay attention to the permissions that their applications require and be suspicious of any application that requires permission beyond its functionality – and, as a very basic security measure, run a reputable security application on their mobile devices.”
